چکیده

Large efforts are made to limit the emissions of fine particles and mercury from coal combustion. Modern fabric filters are certainly an alternative for an efficient removal of fine particles and offer also the option to inject adsorbents to improve the removal of mercury. In this study the particle size distribution was measured after a modern design high ratio fabric filter (HRFF) located after a pulverized coal fired boiler. The mass fractions of PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 at stack conditions were around 5, 15 and 80% respectively. The concentrations of trace elements like As, Cd, Co, Cu, Pb and Sb in different particle sizes were also established. The mercury removal without any adsorbent injection was measured. High mercury removal efficiencies (>80%) were obtained in two out of three tests. Injection of adsorbent before the fabric filter could be used to support the mercury removal.

GAO-09-860T Clean Air Act: Preliminary Observations on the Effectiveness and Costs of Mercury Control Technologies at Coal-Fired Power Plants

The 491 U.S. coal-fired power plants are the largest unregulated industrial source of mercury emissions nationwide, annually emitting about 48 tons of mercury—a toxic element that poses health threats, including neurological disorders in children. In 2000, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that mercury emissions from these sources should be regulated, but the agency has not s...

Research on the Gas Reburning in a Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) System Integrated with Biomass Gasification

N2O emissions from coal fired fluidized-bed combustion are approximately 30–360 mg/Nm, much higher than that from pulverized coal combustion (less than 30 mg/Nm). One approach to reduce the N2O is to reburn the biomass gasification gas in the coal-fired fluidized bed. In this paper, the effects of gasified biomass reburning on the integrated boiler system were investigated by both simulation an...

This paper presents the design and performance of a compact dilution sampler (CDS) for characterizing fine particle emissions from stationary sources. The sampler is described, along with the methodology adopted for its use. Dilution sampling has a number of advantages, including source emissions that are measured under conditions simulating stack gas entry and mixing in the ambient atmosphere....

Prediction of Slag Occurrence in a Lignite-Fired Utility Boiler

Lignite from Mae Moh mine is the largest source of solid fuel for electricity generation in Thailand. It is used in pulverized coal-fired boilers of a 2400 MW thermal power plant. Its high CaO content in ash is a major concern that can affect severe slagging. In this paper, potential of slag occurrence in the power plant was investigated by numerical simulation. The FactSage thermochemical pack...

Chemical and biological characterization of emissions from coal- and oil-fired power plants.

Emission samples were obtained from two medium-sized power plants, one fired with oil and the other with pulverized coal. Particles obtained by a miniscale plume stack gas sampler (MIPSGAS), simulating the dilution process in the plume, were subjected to detailed physical, chemical and biological characterization. Studies by scanning electron microscopy and by Coulter counter demonstrated that ...
